What is the functioning process of AI-powered Google Search?
During the conference, Google showcased the Search Generative Experience (SGE) by conducting a search query: “what’s better for a family with kids under 3 and a dog, Bryce Canyon or Arches.” Instead of the usual blue links, a generative AI block appeared on the search results page, providing a comprehensive and conversational response to the question. The AI block specifically mentioned that while both parks have restrictions on dogs for unpaved trails, Bryce Canyon offers two paved trails that permit dogs. This means that users could obtain the answer they were looking for directly on the Search page, without the need to navigate to other websites.
Underneath the AI-generated response, Google offers various options for further interaction, such as pre-written follow-up questions and the option to create your own custom follow-up. By selecting any of these prompts, you can initiate a new conversational mode that retains the context from the initial question. Essentially, you can engage in a full-fledged conversation with Google Search.
Furthermore, if you perform a product search, Google’s latest generative AI shopping experience will present you with a summarized overview of significant aspects to consider, along with relevant product recommendations. Additionally, you will have access to product descriptions, recent reviews, ratings, prices, images, and more to aid your decision-making process.
