WhatsApp streamlines chat history transfer between identical operating systems, facilitating seamless migration when upgrading Android devices or transitioning from iPhone 14 to iPhone 15.
In a Twitter announcement, WhatsApp declares that users can now effortlessly, rapidly, and securely transfer their complete chat history within the same operating systems, all within the app.
Although WhatsApp doesn’t provide explicit details about the functionality, WABetainfo demonstrated the smoothness of the process in a concise 20-second Twitter video. Upon setting up a new account on the fresh device, users can generate a QR Code by selecting “Chat Transfer.
To initiate the transfer, scan the QR Code on your old phone while keeping the app open. On your new device, a pop-up will appear, allowing the two phones to connect and transfer all data. Once the process is finished, you can proceed with the setup on the new phone.
While this feature is limited to the same operating systems, Android users have been able to switch to iOS, and vice versa, for at least a year now.
It is worth mentioning that after WhatsApp announces a feature, it may take several weeks for the global rollout to complete. For instance, multi-device support for a single account was introduced by the company a couple of months ago, but not all users have received it as of now.
Despite that, the development team of the messaging app is consistently striving to enhance its functionalities. According to the latest reports from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is actively working on incorporating multi-account support for a single device. This forthcoming feature will enable users to have multiple numbers within the same app. Currently, users either utilize WhatsApp Business for an additional number or rely on Samsung’s workaround to download the app once more.
