Apple conducted a two-month test on iOS 16.5 following the release of iOS 16.4 in March. Now, as the new OS prepares for launch, BGR has compiled details on its features, set to be available starting May 15th.
Introducing the coveted My Sports tab in iOS 16.5 for Apple News, enabling users to conveniently track preferred sports, teams, leagues, and athletes. Stay updated with scores, schedules, and standings for major professional and college leagues.
Enhanced Siri capabilities in iOS 16.5 grant users the ability to initiate screen recording by simply instructing Siri with, “Hey Siri, start screen recording.” Additionally, the upcoming update will introduce the Pride celebration wallpaper for iPhone.
Alongside the aforementioned features, Apple is developing quad-box Picture-in-Picture functionality for Apple TV, allowing users to view up to four sports streams simultaneously. While currently in the code references, its availability during the iOS 16.5 cycle remains uncertain.
Apple has introduced a modification in beta 2, altering the process for developers to download macOS and watchOS beta updates. Similar to iOS 16.4, developers now need to register their developer ID to access the latest beta versions. While this adjustment won’t affect the ongoing iOS 16 cycle, it will require users to provide a registered Apple Developer Program ID when downloading initial betas of future versions like iOS 17, macOS 14, and more.
In addition to these recent updates, users can currently access iOS 16.4.1, iPadOS 16.4.1, watchOS 9.4, macOS 13.3.1, and tvOS 16.4.1. These versions introduce over 20 new emojis, a 5G Standalone feature for iPhone users, and expanded Afib history and Cycle measurement for Apple Watch in new regions.
Having fulfilled all promised features for these software versions, Apple’s future plans with iOS 17, iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, macOS 14, and tvOS 17 remain undisclosed, leaving room for potential surprises.
