Ubisoft is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its popular tactical shooter franchise, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon, and as part of the celebrations, the company has made Ghost Recon: Future Soldier available for free on PC for a limited time. Originally released in 2012, the game can be redeemed at no cost through the Ubisoft Connect Store for one week.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, Ubisoft has also made Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint available to play for free on PC and consoles for a limited period. Meanwhile, Wildlands has received a major free update that adds a new story mission and introduces 60fps support on current-generation consoles.
Ubisoft has also launched a special sale covering various Ghost Recon titles across PC, PlayStation and Xbox. However, players who want to add Future Soldier to their library without spending any money can redeem it directly through the Ubisoft Connect Store.
PC users can claim Ghost Recon: Future Soldier for free from August 6 through August 13 at 8:00am UTC (1:30pm IST). Once redeemed, the game will be added to the player’s Ubisoft Connect library and can be accessed later as well.
Ghost Recon Wildlands Gets ‘Last Rites’ Update
Alongside the Future Soldier giveaway, Ubisoft has released the Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites update. The update is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X.
The update introduces a new standalone story mission set in a darker and more oppressive version of Bolivia, giving players a fresh narrative experience within Ghost Recon Wildlands.
Following the update, Wildlands also gets 60fps support on current-generation consoles. Ubisoft has made several visual improvements as well, including enhanced distance rendering, improved lighting and better shadows. The game’s image quality has also been upgraded to support 4K resolution.
The Last Rites update adds several new customisation options, allowing players to adjust settings related to gameplay, difficulty, environment and the user interface according to their preferences.
The update also brings back the popular Predator event, which had previously been discontinued.
According to Ghost Recon Creative Director Olivier Leonardi, the Last Rites update was created to celebrate the franchise’s 25-year legacy and recognise the community that has supported the series over the years.
Wildlands and Breakpoint Are Also Free for a Limited Time
There is more good news for Ghost Recon fans. Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint are also available to play for free on PC and consoles for a limited period.
The free access period runs from August 6 to August 10, allowing players to try both titles without purchasing them.
Ubisoft has also launched a new Ghost Recon Insider Program, through which players can register for opportunities to test the next game in the franchise.
The company has confirmed that a new Ghost Recon game is currently in development. Players who join the Insider Program may receive early access to selected closed tests and will have the opportunity to provide feedback during development.
With the free Future Soldier giveaway, the new Last Rites update for Wildlands, free access to Wildlands and Breakpoint, and the new Insider Program for the upcoming Ghost Recon title, Ubisoft is giving fans plenty to explore as it celebrates 25 years of the franchise.
