Elon Musk admits he overlooked other users’ visibility on ‘for you’ timeline.
Initially, Twitter had planned to restrict the content on its “for you” timeline to users who subscribed to the paid service “Twitter Blue” and linked their account to a phone number. However, following a reversal by the company, Elon Musk acknowledged that he had neglected to mention that non-paying users would still be visible on the timeline.
After the announcement, there was a negative reaction from many users. Later that day, Musk posted a second tweet saying, “Forgot to mention that accounts you follow directly will also be in For You, since you have explicitly asked for them.”
Since being launched under Musk’s leadership, the “for you” tab has sparked controversy. It is more actively curated than its predecessor, frequently displaying tweets from accounts that the user does not follow. It also tends to highlight posts from a few influential accounts, such as Menswear commentator @dieworkwear, conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, and almost all public posts from Musk himself.
Towards the end of December, Elon Musk’s attention became more focused on a particular matter. He conducted a poll asking whether he should step down as the company’s head, which he referred to as a “binding” poll. Within 24 hours, over 10 million users had voted, with 57.5% of the votes in favor of his resignation.
The following day, Musk responded by tweeting the word “interesting” in response to several suggestions that the poll’s results were influenced by fake accounts. He also agreed with the idea that only paid accounts should have the ability to vote in polls. On Tuesday, Musk announced via a tweet that this policy is set to be implemented on April 15th.
