Spider-Man: Brand New Day Sets a New Box Office Record
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has received a tremendous response from Indian audiences since its release. The film delivered a strong performance during its first week and has now broken the long-standing record held by James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water.
Released in 2022, Avatar: The Way of Water had remained the highest-grossing Hollywood film in India for a long time, with a lifetime gross collection of Rs 477.50 crore.
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Spider-Man: Brand New Day surpassed that figure in just 11 days. The film’s earnings are now around 4 percent higher than those of Avatar: The Way of Water. While Cameron’s blockbuster took several weeks to reach the record, Tom Holland’s fourth outing as Spider-Man managed to achieve the feat in just 11 days.
The film has also surpassed Avengers: Endgame to set a new record for the biggest Hollywood opening in India. This makes the box office performance of Spider-Man: Brand New Day a major milestone for the superhero genre.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Delivers a Strong Box Office Run
Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened strongly in India despite not having access to IMAX screens, which were reserved for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey at the time.
The film earned Rs 60.60 crore net on its opening day, surpassing the previous opening-day record held by Avengers: Endgame.
The momentum continued over the following days. The movie collected Rs 49.35 crore on Day 2, Rs 70.25 crore on Day 3 and Rs 77.75 crore on Day 4.
After its four-day extended opening weekend, the film’s collection crossed Rs 257 crore, making Spider-Man: Brand New Day the biggest opening-weekend Hollywood film ever in India.
Although collections declined once the weekdays began, the film continued to post strong numbers. It earned Rs 23.80 crore on Day 5, Rs 21.75 crore on Day 6, Rs 17 crore on Day 7 and Rs 14.25 crore on Day 8.
By the end of its first week, the film’s net India collection had reached Rs 334.75 crore. This also made it the highest first-week grosser among Hollywood films in India.
Second Weekend Gives the Film Another Boost
Spider-Man: Brand New Day witnessed another significant jump in collections during its second weekend. After earning Rs 17.96 crore on its second Friday, the film’s collection increased to Rs 37.10 crore on Saturday.
Sunday proved even stronger, with the movie earning Rs 41.53 crore on Day 11. This pushed its total net collection in India to Rs 415.45 crore.
Meanwhile, the film’s gross box office collection has now crossed the Rs 500 crore mark. With this achievement, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially become the highest-grossing Hollywood film in Indian box office history.
Multilingual Release Helps Expand Its Reach
The success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day also highlights the growing audience for Hollywood films across India. Its release in multiple languages has played an important role in helping the movie reach a wider audience.
The English version has contributed approximately Rs 191.35 crore, while the Hindi dubbed version has earned around Rs 124.40 crore. The film has also been released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada, helping it connect with audiences across different regions of the country.
With Independence Day falling on Saturday, the film could receive another boost at the box office. However, it will also face competition from new Hindi releases, including Batwara 1947 and Awarapan 2, which are scheduled to arrive in cinemas on August 14.
