During the departure of Flight 3923 bound for Florida, the nose and engine of a US Boeing 737 were hit, resulting in smoke entering the cabin.
According to Cuban authorities, a US jetliner departing from Cuba experienced engine problems due to colliding with birds and had to return to Havana for an emergency landing on Sunday. Despite smoke entering the cabin, there were no injuries reported among the 147 passengers and six crew members on board the Southwest Airlines flight 3923 headed for Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Cacsa, the Cuban civil aviation authority, also confirmed the incident. The aircraft in question was a Boeing 737.
After taking off, one of the plane’s engines and its nose were hit by birds. Southwest stated that the pilots were able to safely land back in Havana and the passengers evacuated the aircraft using slides as smoke had filled the cabin.
Southwest Airlines announced that the passengers would be accommodated on a different flight to Fort Lauderdale.
The incident is currently under investigation, according to Cacsa.
